Why wood-fired hot tubs suit Irish gardens
A wood-fired hot tub needs no electrical supply, no pumps and no plumbing. Fill it with a hose, light the stove and the water is ready in around two to three hours. That makes it a natural fit for rural homes, holiday lets, glamping sites and gardens where running power is expensive or awkward.
Wood burning hot tubs: how they work
Also called log burner hot tubs or wood burning hot tubs, these tubs heat the water with a stainless steel stove. Cold water is drawn into the stove, heated by the fire and rises back into the tub, so the water warms naturally without pumps or electricity.
Internal or external stove?
| Internal stove | External stove | |

| Heat-up time | Usually faster | Slightly slower |
| Space inside | Takes up some seating room | Full tub space for bathers |
| Typical price | From around €3,200 | From around €3,500 |
Materials that last in Irish weather
- Thermowood or spruce staves with a fibreglass or polypropylene liner that is easy to clean.
- Stainless steel stoves and chimneys that will not rust in damp, salty coastal air.
- An insulated lid to hold heat between soaks and keep leaves and rain out.
- Optional extras such as air bubble systems, hydro jets, LED lights, sand filters and an electric heater for top-up heating.

Frequently asked questions
Still unsure? Ask us in your quote request and we’ll answer honestly.
How long does a wood-fired hot tub take to heat up?
Typically 2–3 hours from a cold fill, depending on the tub size, the outside temperature, the stove and the dryness of your logs.
Are wood-fired hot tubs expensive to run?
No. There is no electricity cost unless you add jets or a filter. You only pay for logs, and a soak typically uses a modest basket of dry hardwood.
How often do I change the water?
Without a filter, change the water every few uses. With a sand filter and sanitiser, the same water can last several weeks.
Can I use a wood-fired tub in winter?
Yes. Many owners say winter soaks are the best. Empty the tub or keep it from freezing if a hard frost is forecast.
Do I need planning permission?
A garden wood-fired tub at a private home generally does not need planning permission. Be considerate with chimney placement and smoke near neighbours.
