A good hot tub cover is the single most important accessory you can buy: it keeps heat in, rain and leaves out, and children safe. Most covers last 4–7 years in Irish weather, then start to sag, soak up water and lose heat.

Signs your hot tub cover needs replacing
- It feels much heavier than it used to (the foam has absorbed water).
- It sags in the middle or rain pools on top.
- The vinyl is cracked, faded or torn.
- Your running costs have crept up.
- The safety clips no longer fasten properly.
What to buy
| Feature | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Thickness | Tapered 4″ to 3″ or thicker for Irish winters |
| Foam density | 1.5 lb or higher |
| Vapour barrier | Heat-sealed, to stop foam soaking up steam |
| Skirt and clips | Full skirt with lockable safety clips |
| Colour | Grey or brown hides weathering best |
Make your hot tub cover last
- Use a cover lifter so you don’t drag or bend it.
- Clean and condition the vinyl every few months.
- Don’t sit or stand on it, and keep it free of snow.
- Flip and air the foam occasionally on a dry day.
A locking cover is also key to hot tub safety. See replacement covers and lifters in our hot tub accessories range. For safety around water, the RNLI has useful advice for families.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a hot tub cover last?
Usually 4–7 years in Ireland, longer with a lifter and regular care.
How much is a replacement cover?
Typically €400–€900 depending on size, shape and thickness.
Why is my cover so heavy?
The foam has soaked up water, usually because the vapour barrier has failed. It is time to replace it.
